Tapping Speed When tapping with TAFLET, there are no obstacles (e.g. chips), so it can be processed at a higher speed than cutting taps. But the choice should be governed by consideration of work materials, oil type and machines. Generally speaking, 5-20m/ minute is the most frequently used speed, but high-speed tapping of 30m or more/minute may sometimes be performed in parallel with press punching work. However, very high speed shortens the life span of taps due to early wear and heatinduced galling, so it is recommendable to restrain working speed.
